Important Passport Information

PASSPORT CARDS

The government will soon release passport cards that fit in a wallet and cost half the price of a new passport. They can be used for re-entering the U.S. by land or sea from Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean only, and they are not valid for air travel.

Beginning January 23, 2007, US citizens (including infants and children) will need a valid passport to travel to and from Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean (excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands).   You will need a valid passport to re-enter the U.S.

AVOID THE RUSH AND TRAVEL INCONVENIENCE!
Everyone is encouraged to plan ahead.  There may be a wait for passports or a Fed Ex charge that can be waived..... if you order your passport in time.

***Even if the passport rule does not apply to some cruises ...it is better to be safe than SORRY!  Imagine your in port and you missed the ship and now you are stuck on an island that requires passports.  You will not be allowed to leave.
Don't miss the ship...GET your PASSPORT NOW!

Unaccompanied minor requirements:
**CHILDREN TRAVELING WITHOUT BOTH OF THEIR PARENTS to Jamaica need a notarized letter dated within 30 days of departure stating permission to leave the country!   If you are traveling with minor children, you will need their passports too.

ATTENTION DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PASSENGERS:
Dominican Republic law has changed since the printing of our Travel Information.  Please read the following as it the most recent correct information regarding minors traveling to the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic no longer requires a permit or a notarized letter for minors who are United States nationals or Canadian nationals.

If the child’s last name differs from the last name of the accompanying parent(s), proof of parentage is required.  Parent’s name change must be documented (i.e. marriage certificate).  If the minor is 14-17 on the day of departure, they must hold a valid passport.  Anyone under 18 on the day of departure will be denied boarding if not accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.  FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE WILL RESULT IN BEING DENIED BOARDING.

How do I get a passport?  Print PASSPORT APPLICATIONS!

United States citizens can visit the State Department’s travel website www.travel.state.gov, or call the U.S. National Passport Information Center: 1-877-4USA-PPT; TDD/TTY: 1-888-874-7793.

You should allow yourself a sufficient amount of time to apply and receive your passport in advance of travel.  Please allow 6 weeks for processing of your passport application if you apply from inside the U.S.  If you need to travel urgently and require a passport sooner, please visit http://www.travel.state.gov for additional information. Overseas passport processing times vary; you should contact the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for specific information.

Peak domestic passport processing is between January and July.  For faster service, we recommend applying between August and December.

Foreign nationals should contact their respective governments to obtain passports.

****First Choice Travel and Cruise wants to be sure YOU are aware of the proper travel documentation required for your trip. If you are traveling outside the United States and entering any foreign country, even if it’s an airport, (example – Vancouver) you will need proper documentation.

Documentation requirements vary from country to country.  For much of the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas and Canada you will need "PASSPORTS”. For the rest of the world you need a passport, and some countries still require a visa.

When applying for a passport (Birth certificates from Hospitals with footprints on them are NOT the proper papers).

If you are traveling to Europe your passport must be valid 6 months past the last date of your travel plans.

U.S. Resident Aliens need Resident Card.  Resident Aliens and Non Residents must contact the appropriate consulate, U.S. Embassy or U.S. Immigration office to inquire about necessary travel documentation.

It is your responsibility to make sure you have the correct documentation. Without the correct identification and documentation you may be denied boarding and be ineligible for a refund.  See http://www.passportinfo.com for more and the most updated information.  Print PASSPORT APPLICATIONS

NEW SECURITY

AIRPORT CHECK IN

How long do I need to wait? It is the peak travel season and airports are more crowded than usual, and we have heightened security so plan accordingly and be at the airport EARLY!

What can I bring on board?

By Order of the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration

The following restrictions apply to liquids, gels and/or aerosols at the passenger screening checkpoint:

No liquids, gels, and/or aerosols are permitted except one clear transparent resealable 1-quart (1 liter) size plastic bag, which may contain liquids, gels and/or aerosols in containers of 3.4 oz. (100 ml) capacity or less per container. The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably and the plastic bag must be completely closed/sealed and subjected to x-ray inspection separate from the passenger’s carry-on bag.

You may have the items listed below, but you must declare them to TSA at the screening checkpoint if they are not contained in a clear transparent resealable 1-quart (1 liter) size plastic bag and/or are over 3.4 oz. (100 ml).

Baby formula/milk (to include breast milk), juice, and baby food in containers if a baby or small child is traveling

Medications (liquid, gels and/or aerosol)

Liquids (to include juice) or gels for diabetic or other medical needs

All other liquids, gels and/or aerosols may be transported in checked baggage.
Liquids (including beverages), gels and/or aerosols purchased in the sterile area may be carried onboard the aircraft.

As additional information on this new TSA security requirement becomes available, it will be posted on the TSA's Web site at www.tsa.gov.

SECURITY LEVEL REMAINS THE SAME, TSA REFINES AND CLARIFIES BAN

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will continue to implement security measures – some visible and some not visible – to ensure the security of the traveling public and the Nation's transportation system. The traveling public can assist these agencies in carrying out their important security duties by:

Packing lightly, without clutter to facilitate easier screening.

Be prepared to check your carry on luggage if the need arises.

Preprint your boarding passes before you go to the airport.

Check with your air carrier well before your flight departs for information on when you should arrive at the airport.  www.airports.com  gives estimated wait times.

Cooperating with TSA personnel at all checkpoints and gates because TSA Security Officers will be checking carry-on baggage at the gate.

Being attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity.

Protecting U.S.Borders.  U.S. Customs and Border Protection will increase enforcement efforts in international arrival areas including the use of advanced targeting tools, special response teams including baggage and aircraft search teams, baggage x-ray equipment, specially-trained canine units, and explosive detection technology.

DHS has also mandated that all flights from the U.K. transmit passenger manifest information for intensive screening prior to departure from the gate.  In addition, passengers on these flights and all other international flights will be subject to heightened inspection upon arrival in the U.S.
