REQUIREMENTS FOR GETTING MARRIED IN MEXICO

REQUIREMENTS TO GET MARRIED IN MEXICO:

The Groom & Bride MUST ARRIVE AT LEAST THREE WORKING DAYS (Monday to Friday) PRIOR TO THE WEDDING DATE and must provide the following documentation :

Valid Passports:
Although passports are required for US Citizens for their entry into Mexico, they are also mandatory for weddings.

Tourist Visa:
They are provided upon entry to Mexico at the airport.

Original blood test & Medical certificate:
The blood test must be done in Playa del Carmen, or in any other place within the Mexican territory and it must be certified by a Doctor in Mexico, as required by the Civil Ministry. This is to determine blood type, H.I.V and S.T.D. Under the Mexican Law couples that test positive cannot get civilly married in Mexico. Blood test it is done at the hotel and arranged by the wedding coordinator at the cost of approx...$ 220 USD per couple to be paid in cash.

Four witnesses (They can be relatives or friends):
These are required by Law. If witnesses are not Mexican citizens, they must provide a copy of their passport or any official photo ID and their tourist visa.
Plus, they must arrive at least 3 working days prior to the ceremony.
**The hotels can usually provide witnesses for an additional charge..

**Did you know if you are newly divorced you may have to wait a year to get married in Mexico?  Ask a Destination Wedding Specialist to find out the rules at YOUR hotel before you proceed any further!

Gayle Zielke, Destination Wedding Specialist asked this question to a few of her favorite Wedding Resorts in the Riviera Maya for some answers to this important question.  Here are some of the responses:

In regards to your questions about a divorced couple, if the bride is the one who is divorced, if this is the case, she needs to be divorced for over a year and she also needs to bring her divorce decree translated into Spanish and with the apostille seal, please note that this requirement is not applicable to men.

Some resorts replied back and told us the wait is not necessary, so it will be imporatant to find out for sure the rules and regulations of that resort for a divorced couple getting married.
